The nap is a very important part of a dog’s life (and mine). Well exercised dogs (physically, emotionally, and mentally) will nap easily. Not only does this rest the dog, but instills the calmness that we are striving for.
There are three basic approaches to dogs on the furniture: #1 The dog owns the furniture and the humans struggle for space. #2 The human owns the furniture and the dog must stay off. #3 The human owns the furniture and the dog will get down when asked.
Obviously, #1 is unacceptable for an orderly household. #2 keeps the furniture clean but requires you to get on the floor to hug your dog properly. Physical cuddling is so important to the bonding process that we use #3. In addition, we find that most dogs love to sleep in elevated places so they are more apt to spend the day quietly waiting for your return. Since our campers are taught to cooperate with whatever rules you choose impose, they will easily learn to stay off all or just some of your furniture. It is your choice. | Orso, Hazel, Moose, and Harvey (now named Hagus)
