When creek conditions permit, the dogs on the 2 hour morning walk get a chance to swim. Dogs who are reticent are encouraged to learn that they do know how to swim. It is important that dogs learn to be confident swimmers to prevent them from drowning during an inadvertent dip. A panicked dog will swim to the side of a pool or the edge of a dock and exhaust themselves trying to get out at that point. A confident swimmer will continue to swim about to solve the problem of getting out. Most dogs become avid swimmers.
